How it works
A US cup is 236.6 ml. Australia, New Zealand and Canada commonly use a 250 ml metric cup, so the same '1 cup' differs by about 5%; choose 'metric cup' for those recipes. Tablespoons differ too: a US tablespoon is about 14.8 ml, while an Australian tablespoon is 20 ml.
Cups measure volume and grams measure weight, so converting between them depends on the ingredient. One US cup of all-purpose flour weighs about 120–125 g, granulated sugar about 200 g and butter about 227 g.
Formula
°C = (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9 °F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 K = °C + 273.15
Example
1.5 US cups is 354.9 ml. An oven at 350°F is 176.7°C, which recipes usually round to 180°C (gas mark 4).
